We are excited to have Caleb, the hero from Risking Love on our blog today. Risking Love is the first book in the Where the Heart Is series by Brenda S. Anderson. But before you read the interview, here is the back cover blurb to whet your interest. And after the interview, be sure and watch the trailer!
She holds the key to his heart, and his home. Can she risk falling in love with a man whose house she may have to take away?
Bank employee Lissa Morgan likes all the columns of her life to add up. From her job to romance, every major decision is planned out. But before she can go out on a date with Mr. Perfect, she attends a charity auction with her meddling mom who wins Lissa a date with thrill-seeker Caleb Johnson.
Caleb lived for adventure until heart disease stole his wife’s life. Then debt closed his business and now threatens to take his home. With a toddler to raise, he vows that his risk-taking days are over. But then he meets the cautious yet curious Lissa Morgan and decides it’s time to take one more risk—this time on love.
When Lissa learns the extent of Caleb’s debt, she wonders if she can collect on his heart if she forecloses on his home. And why is she falling for the wrong man—one who challenges her to leap from her orderly life and into his waiting arms?
Are you ready to meet Caleb, now?
Karla: This is Karla Baldwin with Action 11 News out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Tonight I’m at the Dormir Hotel covering the Go Red for Women Bachelor Auction, a wonderful event that hopes to raise awareness of heart disease. I’m backstage with the last bachelor to be bid on, the very handsome and very eligible, Caleb Johnson.
Caleb, I’m curious, what compels a gorgeous hunk of a man like you to be part of a bachelor auction?
Caleb: [His face turning red as his cummerbund, he looks at his feet and wipes at his nose] I, uh, my wife died of heart disease two years ago. I don’t want any other family to have to go through what my daughter and I have, so I’m here to spread the word that heart disease is the number one killer of women and most of those deaths could have been prevented with a change in lifestyle and knowledge.
Karla: I’m so sorry for your loss, Caleb, and I admire you for moving on.
Caleb: [shrugs, keeps eyes averted] Yeah, well …
Karla: So you have a daughter at home?
Caleb: [His eyes light up and a smile peeks out] Yeah, my Aimee-doodles. Before Aimee was born, my wife and I loved taking adventures together. Aimee is our greatest adventure.
Karla: That’s so sweet! Ladies, is there anything more attractive than a handsome man who loves children? I think not! You say you like adventure? Give me some specifics.
Caleb: Skydiving, whitewater rafting, bungie-jumping, that kind of thing, but as a single parent of a toddler I’ve curbed my risk taking for now. She doesn’t need to lose both parents.
Karla: At this auction, are you hoping to find a new thrill-seeking partner?
Caleb: [tugs at his red bowtie and shrugs] Can’t say that I am, but my in-laws would say yes.
Karla: Aww, so you don’t really want to be here?
Caleb: Yes, I mean, no … I mean this cause is extremely important to me and I’ll do whatever I have to, to spread the word, and if God directs a meeting with someone else with a similar passion, I hope I’m open to His direction.
Karla: But you’re not actively seeking a new girlfriend? Wife? A mother to your child?
Caleb: [harumphs and looks Karla straight in the eye] My wife was my soul mate and an amazing mother to our daughter. I can’t believe that kind of love comes around more than once in a lifetime, so no, I’m not seeking a replacement.
[Caleb’s name is announced on stage and he flees the interview]
Karla: Sorry ladies, it looks like our risk-taker Caleb Johnson is not looking to take a risk on love. But you never know what’ll happen if love surprises him. This is Karla Baldwin with Action 11 News signing off.
